Which Wig Fiber Type Is Right For You?

Synthetic, Heat-Friendly, or Human Hair? Each of these fiber types has its pros and cons. Not sure which one is the best for your lifestyle? Read on below to find out which fiber type is the best for you.

Synthetic fibers are the most common and affordable option. The wave pattern is baked into the fibers so you don't have to worry about re-styling after washing your piece. It's a great option if you're a shake-and-go kind of gal. Kanekalon is the most common type of synthetic fiber and you can find it being used in wigs from Raquel Welch, Vivica Fox, and so many more. While synthetic fibers can be on the shiny side, you can always tone them down with a bit of dry shampoo. Be sure to keep your synthetic piece away from the heat though; even the heat from an opening oven door can damage a synthetic piece.

Want more styling options? Try a heat-friendly wig or hairpiece. It gives you the flexibility of a human hairstyle without the hefty price tag. The best part is that once you style your piece with hot tools, the style will remain even after washing until you apply heat again. Be sure to keep your hot tools on a medium or low setting when working with your heat-friendly wig or hairpiece. Extremely hot temperatures can still damage a heat-defiant piece. If you plan on restyling your piece often, be sure to always use a heat protectant spray and leave-in conditioner to lengthen the lifespan of your wig. This will help with any frizzing at the ends.

For the most natural look and feel, human hair is what you need. We personally recommend going with Remy Human Hair. Remy means that the cuticle of the hair fiber is still intact and all hair strands are facing the same direction. This results in less tangling and a softer overall feel. Due to the time and material required for 100% Remy Human Hair wigs & hairpieces, they are the most expensive option. However, Human Hair remains one of the most desirable options because of its unbeatable texture and natural-looking movement. This is especially true with Remy Human Hair. Jon Renau, Wig Pro & House Of European all use this hair type for their Human Hair wigs & hairpieces.
