When did you find out you had Alopecia?

A: "I found out when I was in high school...my first encouter with Alopecia was actually when I was 8 but my mom didn't tell me about it because she didn't want to cause more stress. They were saying that it was stress-induced so they didn't tell me and I didn't have another case of Alopecia until I was in high school and then I started thinning throughout my scalp."

Did you know what Alopecia was at the time?

A: "No, I had no idea. I had seen 2 or 3 different dematoligist and had biopsys done and that's how I found out, how I was diagnosed."

What resources were available to you at that time? Did they help?

A: "At that time, I didn't know about toppers and wigs and my options with alternative hair so I was just doing medication. I had rogain for men - yea - and medication that my doctor perscribed me and I was taking for a few years. That helped, it did help but it never fully came back."

What inspired you to open up about Alopecia on social media?

A: "I finally got comfortable about it. I just didn't care what anybody thought. This is who I am and this is what I look like and if you don't like I'm sorry but you don't have to follow me."
VW: "Yeah I really enjoy your Instagram"
A: "Oh thank you"

What are some tips for anyone that is going through the same thing you are?

A: "There are options, so many options out there and if you interested in purchasing a topper or a wig or some kind of hairpiece to help you feel a little bit better and a little more confident then bring somebody with you. Have a support team because that helps, that helps a whole lot. Just having somebody there to cheer you on and help you decide what the best option is because there are so many option it gets a really confusing. Yea, but just rock it. There's no reason to hide your Alopecia. If somebody askes me about my hair, that's the first thing I say. 'It's a wig', I have no problem saying it anymore."
